No food truck for lunch OR dinner??

Since I started blogging on September 1st, I went 6 days before I missed eating at a truck.  Well today I miss another day.

I did not go to a food truck for lunch or dinner today.  There were no trucks in my neck of the woods for dinner, and I had errands to run at lunch.  Needless to say, my pseudo 13 day streak of eating at a truck has been broken.

When I came home, Martin and I joked that it felt weird not going to a truck. Well, lucky tomorrow is a new day, and if we miss tomorrow, we know where we’ll be on Wednesday!

Happy 6th Birthday to my dog, Lulu!

Fullerton: The Lime Truck

On Sundays, most food trucks take the day off. Lucky for me, The Lime Truck tweeted they were at the Bruery today, and they had… fried chicken!  I went down to pick up some lunch, and met up with Karen and Orangecountygal.  Here is what I got…

Lime Truck at the Bruery in Fullerton.. too bad I don’t drink beer 😦
Kendra’s filthy red head brisket
Barbecue brisket with slaw on top
Pork loin with apples over mashed potatoes
Fried chicken breast coated with Honey Bunches of Oats & Almonds
Flavorful but a little dry 😦

Fullerton: Dos Chinos

We noticed Dos Chinos was right around the corner from our house at the Bootleggers Brewery in Fullerton, so we stopped by to pick up dinner.  Martin really liked the filet mignon taco and wanted to try their burrito.  I was going to take the picture of it,but he claims it looked like “any other burrito” (you determine what that means).

I ordered the filet mignon over garlic white rice and fries.  They had to charge me $1 more because I wanted filet instead of rib eye.  If you look at the picture, I’d say its worth the $8!

Dos Chinos and their wall o menus
Filet over rice and fries, topped with a dallop of guacamole
All this for $8… I have lunch for tomorrow!

Irvine: Tropical Shave Ice

I woke up late and ended up eating at a (gasp!) restaurant for lunch. Ok, it wasn’t even a real restaurant but Panera, a bakery/cafe type place.  I got a cup of mac and cheese and a green salad, and that cost me $7.99+tax.  For the same price, I could get a steak over chimi rice and side zuchinni at Piaggio on Wheels, or my pork bellies with rice and fries at Dos Chinos.  Geez!

While eating,  I noticed Tropical Shave Ice was at a school in Irvine doing a fundraiser until 3:00.  It was about 2:00 when we sped down from Fullerton to Irvine.  Lucky for us, we caught up with them before they left.

Vanilla and banana shave ice with red bean and condensed milk
Martin got the “Tiger’s Blood” (Strawberry & Coconut blend)
with red bean and condensed milk.  Underneath the ice was a scoop of ice cream!

Irvine: Dos Chinos

We were at the Laguna Beach Playhouse and decided on a late night snack. Dos Chinos tweeted they were at the Atomic Ballroom in Irvine until 11:00 pm.

As we were driving to Irvine, Martin asked me if they (Dos Chinos) knew who I was. I have only eaten there twice, so I said “nah”.  I guess I was wrong.  When we walked up to the truck, both guys greeted me by name.  Its always cool when the peeps from the truck recognize you!

Here’s our late night snack…

Filet Mignon taco
Cost a dollar more than the ordinary steak taco, but worth it!!
Pork bellies over chorizo rice and fries.
There was more chorizo than rice!
There was so much food I took most of it home.

Irvine: Barcelona on the Go, DanDan Truck, and Oh For Sweets Sakes

It looks like the Gourmet Trucks are working together as a family, rather than acting like some cut throat opponent.  Today for lunch, Barcelona on the Go, Dan Dan BBQ truck, Oh For Sweets Sakes were at the Irvine Auto Center (at the Nissan dealership) and teamed up with Kona Ice and SeaBird Truck.

I went with my coworkers Anna and Katie (my usual lunch buddies) to enjoy some California sunshine and food.

Anaheim (Farmer’s Market): Calbi BBQ & Oh For Sweet’s Sakes

Every Thursday you can find Calbi BBQ, Oh For Sweet’s Sakes and, of course Crepes Bonaparte at the Anaheim’s Farmer’s Market at the Anaheim Promenade.

Irvine: OCDinDin-a-GoGo w/ Barcelona on the Go, Lomo Arigato, and Tropical Shave Ice

Last night when we had our Shave Ice, we told Rick we would see him tomorrow (at the K1 Irvine).  Well, I kept my word (Martin forgot he had back to school night).  Karen met me down in Irvine and we shared a few items from Barcelona onthego and Lomo Arigato.

Barcelona on the Go
The last time I had them was at the Anaheim Farmer’s Market, so it’s been a while!
Paella Croquettes:
The paella rice rolled into a ball, lightly covered in cornmeal and deep fried – Delish!
Dates wrapped in bacon.
It was so good, I ordered another one!
Jamon & melon over baby greens

Lomo Arigato was also there, but they didn’t open their truck untill 6:15 (the event started at 5:30). That’s not good when you have hungry people waiting!!!

Lomo Arigato: Good food but you need to open on time, man!
This order was only $7.00! Enough for 2 or more.
Missing garlic or something like that.
They provide a white sauce to add kick, but I didn’t add it.

Our evening was not complete without a visit to Rick’s truck: Tropical Shave Ice.

My usual: The vanilla with red bean topped with the condense milk.
I’m sure you’re getting tired of this shave ice, eh?  I tend to stick to a tried and true flavor.

Fullerton: Tropical Shave Ice

Today was the first time in weeks its been in the 70’s… but not too cold to have shaved ice!

I went to Tropical Shave Ice after my hair appointment. Rather than post a picture of the same shaved ice as before (I sort of order the same one… vanilla… sweet red bean… condensed milk.. yawn, I know) here is a picture of me, with the shave ice, and the truck!

Remember its Shave ice… there’s no “d”

Santa Ana: Crepes Bonaparte

The Crepes Bonaparte truck will be stopping near my work on the 1st Tuesday of each month.  A lot of the people from work took the day after Labor Day off, so there were not many people today.  The last time they came it was scalding hot outside, so many people stayed in.  Geesh!  I hope more people will start coming to the 900 Broadway location… I’d hate for them to stop coming due to a lack of business 😦
