The best food in the world often comes from the street. On May 1, bring your curiosity and your appetite to The Broad Stage in Santa Monica. You’ll discover how street food evolved into the food truck craze now sweeping the country, and how global street food inspires local cuisine. Then step outside for world music grooves and tastes of six of L.A.’s best global cuisine food trucks, hand picked by KCRW’s Good Food culinary host, Evan Kleiman. There’ll be raffles and prizes, too! 

Your ticket includes food truck tastings after the show! 

Indoors:
KCRW’s Good Food host Evan Kleiman guides the discussion with chef Jet Tila, OC Weekly’s Gustavo Arellano, and food writers from Malaysia and Mexico City who will join us via Skype to share what’s cooking on the streets where they live.

Outdoors:
Sample the global tastes of hand-picked gourmet food trucks Mariscos Jalisco, Let’s Be Frank, India Jones, Piaggio Gourmet on Wheelsand the Nom Nom Truck, alongside the warm, organic Latin/African grooves of the Masanga Marimba Ensemble.

Melrose Night:  popular food trucks and shops open late as well as offer promotions on the first Thursday of every month on Melrose Avenue.  (be sure to visit the stores below to find out about one-day promotions!)

Time: 6PM-10PM

Location: Melrose Avenue b/w N. Ogden St. and Stanley Avenue
Parking: Sportie LA lot (7753 Melrose Avenue), Barracuda (7769 Melrose Avenue) or street parking.

Martin is on Spring Break, and he felt like driving an hour from The OC to the new Los Feliz Din Din a Go Go.

He went to Mandoline Grill for their Bun, a chilled vietnamese noodle dish with vegetables, meat, and fish sauce.

Karen and I went to Canters. I ordered the potato pancakes with apple sauce, and Karen got the egg salad sandwich.

Later, Karen went to Grillem All and got the Peanut Butter & Jelly ravioli tossed in cinnamon sugar. Martin went to Crepen Around for the Banana Nutella crepe.

On Saturday, Incogdealo was hosting a food truck gathering and also promoting luxury apartments at 1818 State College, across the Angels Stadium parking. We tried something from each truck.

Newest LA truck, Twist Burger was there, and we selected the People’s Choice, but substituted the bun for flatbread.

At the OC Food Truck, I ordered Chris’ Deep Fried hotdog, which was a deep fried hotdog, bacon, slaw, cheese and bbq sauce.

At Chompchomptruck, I picked the Chicken Satay and the Hibiscus drink, which was made with hibiscus, rose water and lychee on the bottom, and the Kaya Coconut French Toast.

At Dos Chinos, I got my Bolsa Plate, which is pork bellies with cilantro, tomatillo, cabbage over garlic rice. Shhh!! It’s not on the menu!!

At Swinging Kitchen, we picked the Scallop Ceviche, and the Pho-ench Dip, which is brisket on a baguette, but pho broth for dipping. Lastly, we stopped at Oh For Sweets Sake for a Strawberry & Cream cupcake.

April 2: Santa Anita Food Truck Festival #2

Saturday, April 2, 2011 | 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Santa Anita Food Truck Festival is back, and is going to be BIGGER and BETTER than the first.
 
Enjoy gourmet food from 80 of Southern California’s finest gourmet food trucks including The Grilled Cheese Truck and the Lobsta Truck. Food trucks and foodies everywhere will take over the ENTIRE Santa Anita Infield.

This time around, we are making it bigger AND better!

The event will be held in the vast Santa Anita Park Infield, in the middle of the race track. The event will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Our first Food Truck Festival was located in the east end of the Infield, but this time, the Food Truck Festival will occupy the entire Infield.

Santa Anita Park will have live bands that will play between races. Live music/bands TBD. For kids, we have Family Fun Day, consisting of moonbounces, pony rides, face painting, playground and carnival games. Moonbounces and playground are FREE. Pony rides, face painting and carnival game tickets can be purchased at the Family Fun area.

Admission + Parking
General admission to Santa Anita Park is $5. With general admission, entrance to the Food Truck Festival is free. Children 17 and under are free, when accompanied by an adult.  Santa Anita Park general parking is $4.

It’s First Friday at the Speedzone in the City of Industry.

Karen, Martin and I went to different trucks and met up to share the food.

I went to Vesuvio and Lobsta Truck. At Vesuvio, I ordered the Caprese skewers and the Cheese Ravioli. Both items came with garlic bread. Then at Lobsta, I picked up the Lobster Roll w butter and the Crab Rolls w butter.

Martin went to Waffle de Liege and picked up the Liege Waffle topped with Strawberry and Bananas.

Then he went to Temaki Sushi and picked up California Roll, Temaki Maki (filled with spicy tuna, salmon, yellow tail, albacore, octopus, & shrimp), Slammin Salmon (chopped alaskan salmon mixed with temaki secret sauce), and the Flamin Yellow Tail.

Karen went to Onolicious and picked up the Papaya Teriyaki plate and a Spam Musubi.
