Irvine: Dos Chinos

We were at the Laguna Beach Playhouse and decided on a late night snack. Dos Chinos tweeted they were at the Atomic Ballroom in Irvine until 11:00 pm.

As we were driving to Irvine, Martin asked me if they (Dos Chinos) knew who I was. I have only eaten there twice, so I said “nah”.  I guess I was wrong.  When we walked up to the truck, both guys greeted me by name.  Its always cool when the peeps from the truck recognize you!

Here’s our late night snack…

Filet Mignon taco
Cost a dollar more than the ordinary steak taco, but worth it!!
Pork bellies over chorizo rice and fries.
There was more chorizo than rice!
There was so much food I took most of it home.

Irvine: Barcelona on the Go, DanDan Truck, and Oh For Sweets Sakes

It looks like the Gourmet Trucks are working together as a family, rather than acting like some cut throat opponent.  Today for lunch, Barcelona on the Go, Dan Dan BBQ truck, Oh For Sweets Sakes were at the Irvine Auto Center (at the Nissan dealership) and teamed up with Kona Ice and SeaBird Truck.

I went with my coworkers Anna and Katie (my usual lunch buddies) to enjoy some California sunshine and food.

Anaheim (Farmer’s Market): Calbi BBQ & Oh For Sweet’s Sakes

Every Thursday you can find Calbi BBQ, Oh For Sweet’s Sakes and, of course Crepes Bonaparte at the Anaheim’s Farmer’s Market at the Anaheim Promenade.

Irvine: OCDinDin-a-GoGo w/ Barcelona on the Go, Lomo Arigato, and Tropical Shave Ice

Last night when we had our Shave Ice, we told Rick we would see him tomorrow (at the K1 Irvine).  Well, I kept my word (Martin forgot he had back to school night).  Karen met me down in Irvine and we shared a few items from Barcelona onthego and Lomo Arigato.

Barcelona on the Go
The last time I had them was at the Anaheim Farmer’s Market, so it’s been a while!
Paella Croquettes:
The paella rice rolled into a ball, lightly covered in cornmeal and deep fried – Delish!
Dates wrapped in bacon.
It was so good, I ordered another one!
Jamon & melon over baby greens

Lomo Arigato was also there, but they didn’t open their truck untill 6:15 (the event started at 5:30). That’s not good when you have hungry people waiting!!!

Lomo Arigato: Good food but you need to open on time, man!
This order was only $7.00! Enough for 2 or more.
Missing garlic or something like that.
They provide a white sauce to add kick, but I didn’t add it.

Our evening was not complete without a visit to Rick’s truck: Tropical Shave Ice.

My usual: The vanilla with red bean topped with the condense milk.
I’m sure you’re getting tired of this shave ice, eh?  I tend to stick to a tried and true flavor.

Santa Ana: Crepes Bonaparte

The Crepes Bonaparte truck will be stopping near my work on the 1st Tuesday of each month.  A lot of the people from work took the day after Labor Day off, so there were not many people today.  The last time they came it was scalding hot outside, so many people stayed in.  Geesh!  I hope more people will start coming to the 900 Broadway location… I’d hate for them to stop coming due to a lack of business 😦

Banana, Strawberry and Nutella crepe

Pomona: Calbi BBQ, & Placentia: The Lime Truck

We went to the LA County Fair at the Pomona Fairgrounds today.  Admission was only a dollar if you arrived before 1 pm during the Labor Day weekend.  We also decided to have lunch at CalbiBBQ truck instead of the usual fried Fair food.

Wow, a dollar for the LA County Fair!
Calbi BBQ spotted near the Toyota tent!
Steak taco (top) and chicken taco from CalbiBBQ

We left the Fair around 1:30 because it was getting too crowded and hot.  The Lime Truck tweeted they were at the Bruery off Orangethorpe and the 57 freeway, and they were serving up fried chicken, mac n cheese, and smoked salmon.  When we arrived, they only had smoked salmon and so I got that for Martin.

Santa Ana: Tropical Shave Ice & Oh For Sweets Sakes

I thought this was going to be a quiet evening until I looked at twitter (darn twitter!) and saw that a few trucks were in downtown Santa Ana tonight.  I quickly changed out of my pajamas (don’t laugh, it was only 7pm) and drove down with my friend Karen.

Martin got a crepe from Crepes Bonaparte, Karen and I got shave ice, and then we went to the Oh For Sweets Sakes for a 6-pack of cupcakes.

Fullerton: Piaggio on Wheels

I told my husband that i was stuffed from my Dos Chinos lunch, so he suggested dinner at Piaggio on Wheels. (I hope you see the irony in that sentence)

They were parked at the Bootlegger’s Brewery in Fullerton, so really, how could I say no? I met my husband at the Brewey and found him inhaling his meal.  I wish I took a picture of my husband’s steak… it was a steak picanha (Brazilian choice steak cut with peppercorn cream sauce).. It was so heavenly and he devoured it before I could say “hey, blog it!”

Since I was not hungry enough for steak, here is what I had… my very light meal:

Fresh coconut to drink. You pick it, Coli will open it!

My light dinner: Caprese empenada (light flaky shell filled with mozzarella, basil and tomatos)

Churros with caramel (dulce de leche) for dessert

Santa Ana: Dos Chinos

Dos Chinos tweeted they were going to be on 3rd Avenue and Broadway for lunch. That location was just a few blocks from my office.  I rounded up some coworkers and went.  Unfortunately they were running late. Instead of showing up at 11:30, the truck didn’t arrive until noon. Plus the food was cooked to order, so we did not get our food until 12:20.  Our hour lunch ended up being 2 hours! YIKES!
The Garden Grove taco: BBQ Rib, korean style
The taco was missing some… kick.

Vietnamese Pork bellies over rice and fries.
This lunch special was only $7 and I was FULL!

Vancouver: JapaDog

While on summer vacation, we stopped at JapaDog, a cart located in downtown Vancouver.  While its not quite a food truck, it definitely is a creative way to make a hot dog taste yummy!
