Feb 15-21: Northern Trust Open

Popular LA food trucks roll to Northern Trust Open

PGA TOUR event continues to bring Angelenos #MoreThanGolf

LOS ANGELES – As fans get ready for one of the most anticipated outdoor sporting events in LA, they’d better come hungry!  Building on the wildly popular food offerings at the 2015 event, this year’s Northern Trust Open is featuring four of the most recognizable food trucks the city has to offer. Taking place February 15-21, the Northern Trust Open is offering attendees #MoreThanGolf through tastes of Wise Barbeque, Cousins Maine Lobster, The Grilled Cheese Truck and Baby’s Badass Burgers.

The food trucks will be located in The Promenade featuring the Travis Mathews Tailgate at The Riviera Country Club, where fans can enjoy a variety of food, beverage and entertainment options.

New in 2016, the NutriBullet Food Truck will offer sweet treat options to fans when it makes its debut at the Northern Trust Open, to the players’ right of No. 13 fairway.  The NutriBullet Food Truck’s blended smoothies will add further variety to the tournament’s culinary experience.

“The food trucks at The Promenade were hopping at last year’s event, and we’re thrilled these popular staples of the LA food scene are back at the Northern Trust Open in 2016, as well as the addition of the NutriBullet Food Truck,” said Northern Trust Open Executive Director O.D. Vincent. “LA is known for its unique cuisine, so it’s only fitting that the city’s iconic golf event bring the best flavors of the surrounding area to its fans at The Riviera Country Club.  I’m confident we’ll have something for everyone, and the fan experience is going to be that much more memorable because of it.”

Food trucks featured at the event include:

Cousins Maine Lobster was built by two cousins from Maine. They talked about the burgeoning food truck industry that was taking over the LA food scene, bringing delicious, unconventional cuisines to the masses cheaply and efficiently. After surveying the landscape they realized that LA was missing those tasty Maine traditions they fawned over. They decided to pool their savings and launch a food truck that celebrated Maine and served the bounty of their state the only way they knew it: fresh.

Wise Barbecue Inc. brings the revered tradition of the Texas Smokehouse Meat Market to Los Angeles. From their pepper crusted Beef Brisket to their tender and delicious Spare Ribs you won’t find better Texas Style Barbecue in all of Los Angeles.

What started as a fun, weekend activity to enter the Cheesy Mac and Rib Melt into LA’s 7th Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational quickly became the idea behind The Grilled Cheese Truck. After seeing the masses of grilled cheese fanatics gathered to pay homage to everyone’s favorite comfort food, the owners realized that this world needed more grilled cheese sandwiches brought to the streets. Not just the classic bread, butter and cheese, but amazing creations that are constructed with the best ingredients, local produce and made with nothing but love.

Baby’s Badass Burgers sprang from the imaginations and experiences of ex-New Yorker restaurateur Erica Cohen and celebrated event planner Lori Barbera. Together, the dynamic duo of Cohen and Barbera originated the Baby’s Badass Burger concept, design and branding, and developed and refined the menu with Executive Chef Jason Ryczek. So the next time you see a glimpse of a hot pink flash rolling by you (or get a Twitter update) — it just might be Baby’s Badass Burgers coming to a street near you.

RIP Glenn De Baca #DinDinaGoGo #FoodTrucks

Back in the 2009, when food trucks were still new to LA, and when the food truck lots were just forming, Glenn De Baca helped form the famous Din Din a Go Go with various food truck operators such as LomoArigato, TropShaveIce, and others.

Over the years, Glenn would create food truck locations throughout the LA County area, but focused primarily in the South Bay. He never turned away a new food truck, and usually was the first lot to give a food truck their first real break.

Until recently, he ran the successful lot South Bay Din Din a Go Go (renamed Food Trucks at Narbonne High), which was one of the most popular street food truck event in the Los Angeles County. Not only were they the most popular, they were the ones who started the trend as the first street food truck lot ever.

Sadly, @AtomicEats posted on January 27, 2016, Glenn passed away after battling a long illness.  He will be missed, and he will be remembered as one of the pioneers for promoting the LA Food Trucks.  RIP, Glenn.

REST IN PEACE GLENN….some of you may not know him or really care. But, this was another soul that helped a lot of food…

Jan 23: Costa Mesa, Free concert Milo Greene

Milo Greene represents an impressive evolution in many ways. What began as a collection of friends is now a four-year musical partnership about to release their second album. The band began making music together in 2009 and moved to Los Angeles shortly thereafter. As the group made their cinematic debut album, released in 2012, Milo Greene shifted into a fully tangible being, a force created by four distinct songwriters and musicians whose collaboration consistently remains its center.

Last summer, after touring extensively and playing festivals like Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and Outside Lands in support of Milo Greene, the musicians came home and began writing new music. The band wrote separately, each constructing their own ideas, bringing in varied, individual influences, putting the pieces together as a collective. There was a unified focus on percussion and on creating more up-tempo tracks, specifically ones with rhythmic, dance-inducing grooves.

About the Northern Trust Open

What started as the Los Angeles Open in 1926 at Los Angeles Country Club, the Northern Trust Open is now one of the longest-running tournaments on the PGA TOUR, being played for the 90th time this year. It was staged at various courses throughout the Los Angeles area before permanently settling at Riviera Country Club in 1973. Outside of the major championships, the Northern Trust Open is the fourth-oldest event on TOUR, trailing only the BMW Championship, the RBC Canadian Open and the Valero Texas Open.

City of Hope was named the official charity of the Northern Trust Open beginning with the 2013 event.  In 2015, the Northern Trust Open generated over $2 million to benefit City of Hope, the event’s official charity partner, and other non-profit organizations in the Los Angeles area. The total generated for Los Angeles charities since the event’s inception in 1926 is now more than $60 million.

Fans are reminded that each year, youths 18 and younger are admitted free of charge to the Northern Trust Open when accompanied by a ticketed adult.  There is no limit to the number of youths 18 and younger who can attend with a ticketed adult. Also, as part of its support for the Birdies for the Brave military outreach initiative, complimentary grounds admission tickets for active duty, Reserve, military retirees, non-retired veterans and dependents to the Northern Trust Open are available from Wednesday through Sunday of tournament week.
