Manhattan Beach: Herrodog

Original Herro Dog
Konichiwa dog
French bulldog breakfast dog

Normally on Sunday we stay locally but today Martin wanted to try a new truck in LA, specifically in Manhattan Beach.

After taking the 91, 110 & 105 freeway, we headed toward the pier and found Paul & Kimberly.

Martin selected the Original Herrodog (pronounced Har-ro, like Hel-lo), which had bacon, mayo, jalapeno, cheese, relish, sauerkraut, mustard & ketchup.

Karen picked the Konichiwa, which had sesame oil, wasabi mayo, nori (toasted seaweed), & sesame seeds.

I selected the Hungry French Breakfast dog, which was on a french toast bun with bacon, maple syrup & an egg.

Gardena: The Yummy One

We first tried the Yummy One at the New Years Eve Block Party at the OC Fair. Unfortunately, they did not have a full menu so when we found out they were going to South Bay DinDinAGoGo, we made a special trip.

Martin ordered the Bimbimbap, which is their specialty, and I ordered the Rice Wrap with bulgogi beef, the same item I tasted at OC Fair.

Santa Ana: Alebrijes grilled taco truck

The pink mexican taco truck at Main Street & Cubbon in Santa Ana
Carne asada taco (and it comes with nopales!)
Lengua y nopales
The view of the truck as I drove away

I was doing errands at lunch and as I was coming back from the post office I noticed a street sign that said “Cubbon”. A light went off and I remembered reading a review in OC Weekly about a pink mexican taco truck.

Turning into the street I spotted the truck. I must have been lucky because the streets were quiet, and I was the only customer.

I played it safe and ordered 2 tacos, carne asada (grilled steak) and lengua (tongue) sans onions. Since I was on my lunch break, I took the food back to work.

I know I don’t talk about the food, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised to see slices of nopales (grilled cactus) inside my tacos.

Fullerton: Shortstop bbq, Oh For Sweets Sake, Rolling Sushi van, Dos Chinos

The debut of the smoked duck sandwich with arugula and chips
by ShortStop BBQ
Chicken noodle soup from Oh For Sweets Sake
Oahu shrimp taco from Dos Chinos
Spicy tuna roll & Crunch roll from Rolling Sushi Van
Rolling Ball

Even though I live close to the Fullerton #MiniTourTue location, I usually pass it for the Los Alamitos stop for one reason: parking stinks!

However, today Shortstopbbq tweeted they were debuting a new smoked Duck sandwich, which was duck, arugula tossed in a creamy vinegrette and crushed chips. I’m a sucker for duck (and that includes my hockey team). I braved downtown Fullerton for a sandwich and a cup of chicken noodle soup from Ohforsweetssake.

Martin texted me his order while he went to the Starbucks to stake out a table. (Hey, It’s cold outside!) He wanted the oahu shrimp taco from Dos Chinos, and sushi from Rolling sushi van: the Rolling ball, Crunch roll and a Spicy tuna hand roll.

I also went to Dos Chinos and ordered their Bolsa pork belly taco, and went to Dan Dan for their Korean Rib taco. For dessert, I had my shave ice.
