Great Food Truck Race 2 Press Release

THE GREAT FOOD TRUCK RACE’ HITS THE ROAD FOR SEASON TWO Tyler Florence Returns as Host, Premiere Slated for August 14th at 10pm ET/PT Following ‘Food Network Star’ Finale

NEW YORK – May 4, 2011 – Food Network, the leader in food and lifestyle entertainment, announce the start of production for the second season of the hit primetime series, The Great Food Truck Race with Chef Tyler Florence returning as host. The show is set to premiere on Sunday, August 14th at 10pm ET/PT after the Food Network Star finale, with all subsequent episodes through September 25th airing Sundays at 9pm ET/PT.

In season two, eight celebrated and diverse food trucks from around the country embark on a coast-to-coast culinary road trip through cities including Santa Monica, Calif.; Las Vegas; Salt Lake City; Denver; Manhattan, Kan.; Memphis, Tenn., Atlanta, and Miami. Each week, the trucks roll into a new city and compete in dynamic challenges – often battling tough conditions including weather problems, location mishaps, food sourcing issues, and ever-changing customer taste buds. In the end, it’s all about which truck can sell the most food and race to the next episode while the losing team is sent home. Guest judges join host Tyler Florence in each episode and the last truck standing wins $100,000.

The Great Food Truck Race is produced by RelativityREAL, LLC.

Stop 2: The Lime Truck is in Salt Lake City

We were in Fullerton  for the “Too Fat, Too Furious” food gathering, when I asked my friends if they’d consider driving to Salt Lake City with me to support the Lime Truck for the Great Food Truck Race. Hey, It was only a 10 hour drive! Unfortunately my friends declined, so I tossed a change of clothes, my dog Lulu, and headed out with Martin.

We stopped at Cedar City, UT around 3 am, spent the night at a Comfort Inn (very nice hotel!) and made it to Salt Lake City at 2:30pm the next day.

The Lime Truck was at the Petsmart Super Pet Adoption and had a fantastic VEGAN & VEGETARIAN menu (yes, as in no meat!).  When we got to the truck, Jason first laughed at seeing us, and they laughed at his meatless menu.   He said they only had $100 to work with on this challenge.

I heard other trucks were running out of food…. not solely because their food was great, but because they didn’t have much to start with.  I’m guessing they had to run out and get more food to make, while The Lime Truck was able to stretch their money using vegetarian food.

We didn’t get to spend much time at SLC.  After ordering our food, we went to visit the Temple, and turned around… back toward the OC.

Las Vegas: Hodgepodge (Cleveland), Devilicious (San Diego), Roxys Grilled Cheese (Boston)

While at the Lime Truck location, we found out there were other trucks near El Cortez in downtown Las Vegas (Fremont Street). We hopped across town and found 5 trucks, Vegas’ Sloppijo’s and Lulu’s, Roxy Grilled Cheese from Boston, Hodgepodgetruck from Cleveland, and Deviliciousfood from San Diego.

We had until 7: 30 pm to eat before the TV show closed the trucks. We were also full from the Lime Truck, so we picked food from Hodgepodgetruck. Martin ordered the Hodge Podge Dawg and I ordered the Chefs Steak.

While waiting for the food, I went to say hello to the girls from Devilicious. They were amazed I drove from the OC for food.

While eating, we observed Devilicious & Hodgepodgetruck talk “game” strategy. We wanted to try Roxys but were too full, and hope maybe tomorrow we can catch them.

The day crowd had gone home… and this was the crowd at 6:30 pm (1 hour til cut off time)

Great Food Truck Race: The Lime Truck teams up with Slidertruck in Vegas

I was at a kiddie birthday party when I got a DM tweet asking if I’d drive to Vegas to support the OC trucks participating in the next Great Food Truck Race (a reality tv show on the Food Network). Hmmm, why not?!

We left The OC at 12: 30, called Bally’s Hotel for a room (perks of being a Total Rewards player) and arrived at Vegas at 4: 30. We found the Lime Truck at 5:30 pm via a tweet from The Slider Truck, and also found other faithful OC foodies at the gathering.

Martin & I ordered the Arrogant Mussels, the Crab & Scallops Ceviche, the Jidori Chickenconfit taco, and a Limeaid from The Lime Truck.

While eating, foodiePaul showed off his beautiful Caprese Salad plate, and I took the picture.

The food gathering was hosted by Vegas truck: the Slider Truck, and we supported them by ordering the Ya Ya (greek) slider and the Pulled Pork slider.
