From the @FastFoodMaven:

Jay and Karen of Bacon Mania Truck have taken over the Shortstop restaurant in Fullerton. A grand re-opening is set for Friday and Saturday. They have tweaked the menu slightly, and the look. Karen says: “We’re adding more traditional BBQ joint menu items like rack of ribs and 1/2 chicken. We’re expanding our take & bake menu for easy party pick-ups. We’ve got some crossover items that BACON MANia fans might be excited to find on the menu as well, like bacon-wrapped chicken wings and bacon mac & cheese.”

Note: If you’re using google GPS, don’t rely on it too much once you reach Placentia Avenue.  The restaurant is located behind the Jack in the Box.  The GPS may direct you to apartments.

Seabirds chef lands temp gig in Newport (Dec 6-9)

Article in the OC Register by Nancy Luna:

Seabirds Truck founder Stephanie Morgan acknowledges she has been AWOL lately, but for good reason. She’s been cooking up a few deals to expand her popular vegan truck business.

The latest coup: Seabirds is hosting a three-day pop-up event at Whole Foods Market in Newport Beach.

Stephanie Morgan and her vegan food truck arrive at the SOCO Collection Farmers Market on Hyland Avenue in Costa Mesa on Saturday. Seabirds Truck has developed a loyal following of customers who not only show up on Saturdays, but also go to the various other locations the truck moves around to throughout the week.

Morgan is taking over the kitchen at the store’s Back Bay Tavern restaurant Dec. 6-8. The vegan menu will be available 11 a.m.- 10 p.m.

“I’m excited to be in a kitchen and not on wheels,” Morgan said.

In addition to serving signature dishes like her critically reviewed avocado tacos, Morgan said the pop-up menu will offer complicated dishes that can’t be done on the truck, such as butternut squash enchiladas and a persimmon roasted beet carpaccio.

The pop-up will act as a dry run for Morgan, who has plans to open a brick and mortar restaurant in Orange County. No deals have been finalized, but she’s hoping to launch a taco stand in Santa Ana. A larger restaurant is also in the works.

“We’d love to be part of downtown Santa Ana,” she said.

Morgan is also getting into the wholesale market.

She’s selling vegetarian wraps and burritos to San Diego State’s Aztec Market, a student-run convenience store on campus. Morgan said the market contacted them after tasting her food.  “We’d love to get with more schools,” she said. “So many kids want healthier options.

First Friday at Abbott Kinney, Venice

Started as a community project by Venetian Janet Gervers the AKFF launched 1st Fridays & has promoted Venice & Santa Monica since 2008 http://www.abbotkinney1stfridays.com/

Company Overview

The Page 1 status Google Blog published by a Venice local of over ten years is catering to a Los Angeles audience interested in the urban beach lifestyle in Venice & Santa Monica. The blog was started to help build the First Fridays of the month event back in 2008 when the businesses on the boulevard needed help to expand low attendance of about 50 people. The effort was in conjunction with the Venice Neighborhood Council and the Venice Chamber of Commerce. The event became successful with about 1000 in attendance and the blog expanded to cover all of the Venice community and eventually Santa Monica.
