Costa Mesa, Calif. (November 1, 2011) – The people who bring you the OC Fair return with their second annual
New Year’s Eve Block Party on Saturday, December 31, 2011 from 7:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m. Unlike other New Year’s Eve celebrations, the New Year’s Eve Block Party offers great fun in a casual setting. No black ties here! The official website is located at ocfair.com/blockparty.
The New Year’s Eve Block Party will offer live tribute band entertainment by the decade – from the ‘60s to the ‘90s – plus DJs and dancing. Tribute bands include: The Who Revue; Wild Child; Britain’s Finest – The Complete Beatles Experience Tribute Show; The Cured; Flashback Heart Attack “Ultimate New Wave ‘80s Show”; Rio – A Tribute to Duran Duran; The Joshua Tree – A Tribute to U2; and more.
There will also be a gathering of gourmet food trucks to satisfy every appetite along with plentiful bars. Some of the participating food trucks include Chomp Chomp Nation, Crepes Bonaparte, Brats Berlin, Flying Pig Truck, Piaggio On Wheels, Chef Joe Youkhan’s Tasting Spoon and Calbi. More trucks will be announced in the coming weeks.
New this year is the Casino, where high-rollers can “gamble” for fantastic prizes. Attendees can also enjoy rides, other entertainment and, at midnight, a pyrotechnic show to ring in the New Year.
General admission is $35 pre-sale ($40 after 12/1) and includes admission to the event and all live music entertainment. General parking is $10 ($20 for preferred). For a limited time there is also a combination package that includes a 2012 OC Fair Super Pass available for $55 through December 21. Additional charges apply for food, beverages and casino. Tickets and parking are available on Ticketmaster.com. The Block Party plus Super Pass package is available for purchase online here.
The OC Fair & Event Center is home to a variety of events throughout the year in addition to the annual OC Fair. It is located off the 405 and 55 freeways at 88 Fair Drive in Costa Mesa. Irvine: Tamarindo Truck
Tamarindo Truck was at the Teller Lot today. The last visit was their debut back in September.
Their menu had changed since the first visit, and the pork torta was calling out to me. Every ingredient was chosen deliberately for the meal, and made with care: succulent and flavorful pork, a creamy black bean spread, Oaxaca cheese, mixed greens, tomato and a dash of their homemade salsa to add a little spice. There was even a sliver of dill. I don’t believe dill is normally found in tortas, and I thought it really added something new and exciting to such a traditional staple dish.
I can’t wait to see what new items Tamarindo will be making for the New Year.
