The Great Food Truck Race returns for Season 5, premiering Sunday, Aug. 17 at 9|8c, with host Tyler Florence and eight brand-new food truck teams. This season’s high-stakes culinary road trip will take the hopefuls on a new route beginning in Southern California and culminating in a triple-city finale in Florida. None of the teams are current food truck operators — they’re hitting the ground as rookies. But they do have food skills, fresh concepts and entrepreneurial spirits, which they’ll need to rely on if they plan to make it to the end for a chance at winning their own food truck business and $50,000 in seed money.
Here’s a sneak preview:
This season the route will take the teams to Santa Barbara and Venice Beach, Calif.; Tucson, Ariz.; Austin; Oklahoma City; St. Louis; Mobile, Ala.; and Tampa, Naples and Key West, Fla. Each team’s cooking — and selling — skills will be put to the test in various challenges that will uniquely differ from city to city. On the first day, each team will be provided with a vehicle for the duration of the race, but only the grand-prize winner will get to keep their truck. These rookies will soon learn that operating a food truck is a lot harder than it looks.
This season’s teams are:
Beach Cruiser (Venice, Calif.)
Chatty Chicken (Chattanooga)
Gourmet Graduates (Providence)
Let There Be Bacon (Cleveland)
Lone Star Chuck Wagon (Houston)
Madres Mexican Meals (Norwalk, Calif.)
Middle Feast (Los Angeles)
Military Moms (Fort Drum, N.Y.)
