Yelp is a great tool for foodies. I personally use Yelp like my foodie bible, but I DO have a beef against foodies who think their review is the "testimonial" which will make or break a food truck!
When you decide to do a food truck review on Yelp, please take in to consideration all of these: the food, the quality, the price, and the overall customer service. If a truck ran out of napkins (which they will) don't ding them for that. Hello... its a freaking truck, not a 5-star restaurant! You don't even have table cloths or a table!
If you had a hard time finding the truck, don't give it a one star because of that. I especially think if the truck is "new" to the streets, give them some slack. Have you not notice that we live in So Cal, the land of traffic!?
Food truck try to be at the site location they tweet... but thanks to the neighborhood cops or property managment companies, many trucks get chased away and may have moved around the corner. Or... many of the trucks may break down and have to cancel their scheduled meet at the last minute. (Yes, even KogiBBQ, the King of Goumet Food Trucks broke down, and had to cancel).
That is why you need to check twitter or facebook for frequent updates. If you are not sure where they are, CALL THEM!! Almost all the trucks post their phone numbers and have web sites. If you don't have a cellphone, go find a payphone (if you can) or borrow some strangers phone. If the food trucks don't answer their phones, ok, go ahead and ding them for that. After all, you did try to find them.
Lastly, (and this is my biggest gripe!) DO NOT compare truck A to truck B. That's classless and downright tacky. Its like your mom and dad saying "Why can't you be like your brother?"
If you like the Lime Truck, but do not like SeaBirds Truck, fine. That is not to say SeaBirds is not an excellent truck... it means you're not a fan. One awful comment I saw on Yelp was "I don't like eating at "X" truck, but I'd eat there before I'd eat at this food truck". That's downright rude, and mean. Your review shows me that you have no class, and I'm not going to follow you as a foodie.
Give your review on the truck YOU ate, and leave it at that. That's my 2 cents. If you don't agree with me, well, too bad. This is my blog, not yelp!
